In which conditions are Greeva Vasti Beneficial

Greeva Vasti offers quick relief from discomfort and is highly beneficial in the following conditions like:

  • Cervical Spondylitis – Also known as cervical osteoarthritis is one of the most common causes of neck pain which severely affects the joints, discs, and soft tissues of the neck region. This mainly happens due to the wear and tear of cartilage and bones found in the cervical spine.
  • Whiplash – The injury is caused when a person’s head moves backward and then suddenly moves forward with great force. Sports injuries, horseback riding, cycling accidents, amusement park rides, rear-end car collisions, etc. can cause much strain in the muscles of the neck region. This sudden motion may cause stretch and tear to the tendons in the neck region which causes neck pain, headache, blurred ache, ringing in the ears, etc.
  • Sprains and Strains –Sprains and strains happen due to certain physical activities. Sprains occur at the joints thereby affecting the ligaments. Common symptoms include limited mobility, inflammation, pain, swelling and bruising. Strains are caused when too much force is applied to the muscle. Repetitive motion, overusing a muscle, or working beyond your physical ability are the major reasons for strain.
  • Tension headaches – This may cause mild, moderate, or intense pain in your head, neck, and behind your eyes. In Tension headaches, Nasya (nasal medication) Shirodhara (pouring of medicinal liquids over the head), etc. are administered for better relief.
  • Migraines – These are intense headaches that are classified into classical migraines (those with aura) and those without aura. Stiffness or pain in the neck region is one of the most common symptoms of migraines with aura. In this type of disease, Greeva Vasti is administered along with Nasya, Shirodhara, etc. for better results
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis – This is an autoimmune disease that causes joint problems such as pain, swelling, and loss of function. When this disease affects the neck, it causes pain and inflammation. Greeva vasti along with Abhyanga (massage with herbal oils), Churna pinda sweda (powder bolus fomentation), Patra pinda sweda (leaf bolus fomentation), and Virechana gives excellent relief for this disease.
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis – This is common arthritis affecting the spinal cord. This causes severe inflammation of the vertebrae that eventually leads to chronic pain and disability. Other large joints such as shoulders, hips, and knees are also involved. Greeva vasti along with Abhyanga and Sarvanga Dhara are found beneficial lines of treatment.
  • Osteoporosis – This is a medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile caused by hormonal changes or deficiency of calcium or Vitamin D. Symptoms of Osteoporosis of the neck include pain, discomfort, and stiffness in the neck. Greeva Vasti along with Nasya, Lepa, and Vasti are administered for better relief.
  • Fibromyalgia – this is a chronic disorder with widespread, unexplained pain in the muscles and joints. The condition is often associated with tender points at the back of the neck, shoulders, upper chest, and outer elbows. Neck pain and snatching pain are quit common symptoms of Fibromyalgia.
  • Slipped herniated disk – Invertebral disks are cushioned structures that occupy the space between every two vertebrae which allows free movements of the spine. When these discs slip from their location, they put pressure on the nerves and muscles in the areas that cause pain and stiffness. Other symptoms include numbness, pain extending down the arms, pain worsening at night, muscle weakness, tingling, aching and burning sensation in the neck and arms, etc.
