The eye is the most important and sensitive organ in our body. The use of computers and the stress and strain of today’s life cause some disorders in the health of the eye.

Netra Tarpan or Akshi Tarpan is the procedure for nourishing the eyes using Ayurvedic herbs. This is a unique and centuries-old Ayurvedic practice aimed at enhancing eye health and vision. In this traditional therapy, specially prepared medicated ghee, infused with therapeutic herbs, is delicately applied over the eyes for a specific duration. Afterward, patients are guided to gently open and close their eyes, facilitating the ghee’s absorption and beneficial effects. This treatment not only nourishes and lubricates the eyes but also includes a soothing massage of the surrounding facial and head areas, promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

Netra Tarpan can address various eye conditions, making it a sought-after choice for those seeking natural and personalized eye care to maintain or improve their ocular well-being.

Importance of  Netra Tarpan Eye Rejuvenation Treatment

It is said that the eyes are the most revealing sense organ in the human body. The most common ailments faced by eyes are heaviness of the eyes, difficulty in opening eyes, conjunctivitis, dry eyes, and hazy vision. Depending on the discomfort observed and the dosha of the patients, a medicinal concoction of ghee is used for the treatment. There are certain vital points (marmas) on the eye which suffer the most during stress and pollution.

Netra Tarpana treatment rejuvenates and relieves the stress accumulated in the eyes and helps these marmas to work effortlessly. Depending on the dosha of the patient and the severity of the problem, the procedure extends up to a maximum of five days. Even the medicinal concoction and the type of Ghrita differ according to Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

If a patient is suffering from severe eye diseases like falling eyelashes, dryness of the eyes, darkness in front of eyes, abnormal deviation of the eyeball, and eyes that have been repeatedly afflicted and debilitated due to multiple diseases, Netra Tarpana treatment is advised.

How does it work?

Netra Tarpan works by using special medicated ghee. This ghee is believed to penetrate the body’s channels effectively, so when applied to the eyes, it reaches deep layers, cleansing both the outer and inner parts of the eyes. The medicated ghee has properties that help it enter cells, as cell membranes are made up of lipids.

The treatment procedure of Netra Tarpan is divided into three parts:

  1. Purva Karma (Pre-treatment procedure)
  2. Pradhana Karma (Main procedure)
  3. Pashyat Karma (Post-treatment procedure)

Purva Karma: Before starting the procedure, a thorough examination of the patient is done to know the prakriti and Vikriti and as per this, medications used for this procedure are advised. After a thorough examination, cleaning of the body is strictly followed using certain Ayurvedic therapies like Vaman, Virechana, and Shiro Virechana.

Pradhana Karma: The person is made to lie on the droni and the gram flour is placed around both the eyes. The lukewarm medicated Gritha is poured into it and made to stay for at least five minutes, then squeezed out and replaced with warm medicated Gritha. This procedure is continued for 25 minutes.

Pashyat Karma: After the treatment is over oil is removed from the eyes along with the dough and a gentle Abhyanga massage is done. The patient must rest for some time after the procedure.
