Have you ever noticed how your morning routine affects your entire day?

Your morning rush may have left you tense and agitated the rest of the day. Or you could have noticed that after exerting too much effort in the morning, you were exhausted. Some of you could feel heavy and lethargic following a sluggish and exhausting start.

Therefore, to stay fresh throughout the day, it’s crucial to maintain a balanced morning routine.

Importance and benefits of a healthy routine

Most of you will be starting your day by thinking about deadlines, financial issues, family, children, and so on. It may have deteriorated your mental as well as physical health. So putting an effective Ayurvedic routine into practice will make you feel more productive and focused all day long.

Some of the benefits of practicing a healthy routine are:

  1. Maintain the circadian rhythm of the body.
  2. Enhances digestion, absorption, and assimilation of the food consumed.
  3. Decreases stress and thereby maintains concentration and ability to focus on the work performed.
  4. Improve the quality of sleep.
  5. Improve mental wellness of the individual.
  6. Helps in preserving the normal health of the individual.

Ayurveda Morning Routine

Acharyas detailed the daily routine in the Ayurvedic classics.

Here are the simple steps you can follow to practice a healthy morning routine.

  1. Wake up early: In Ayurvedic textbooks, it is advised to wake up at “Brahma muhurta,” i.e., at least two hours before sunrise. You can attain this by practicing for a few days if you are not used to it. You’ll have plenty of time to complete all the tasks in the morning.
  2. Meditation or Prayer: Spend 5 or 10 minutes in your bed thinking about God or yourself. Affirm in your mind that you are going to make this day beautiful and memorable. If you can make a list of everything you need to do that day.
  3. Cleanses the mouth and digestive tract: It’s crucial to eliminate your bowels and urine. Holding the bowel and pee can cause several problems.

Use a soft brush and toothpaste or powder, especially one with an astringent, acrid, or bitter flavor, to clean your mouth after the evacuation. You can get rid of extra toxins that have become lodged between your teeth by using dental floss.

Always scrape your tongue with a copper or steel tongue cleaner to remove the toxins and waste materials that have accumulated on the tongue overnight.

  1. Oil flush (Gandusha / Kabala): You can gargle or spend a few minutes holding lukewarm water or medicinal oil in your mouth. It contributes to the health of the teeth and gums, lessens tooth sensitivity, and enhances sound clarity.
  2. Collyrium: Everyday use of medicinal collyrium will lead to thicker, more beautiful eyelashes and improved vision.
  3. Nasyam: Instilling two drops of medicated oil or ghee in each nostril helps to clear the sinuses and surrounding areas. The toxins accumulated overnight in the nose can be removed by this method.
  4. Oil massage: Massage your entire body after applying oil for a specific period. If you are too busy practice whole body oil massage once a week.
  5. Exercise: You can include yoga or mild stretching exercise in your daily routine. It will help to refresh your mind as well as body. Always keep in mind that over-exercise can also lead to health issues.
  6. Bath: Don’t forget to take a quick shower before heading to work. It will provide freshness to both body and mind. After bathing, apply moisturizer according to your skin tone.
  7. Breakfast: Skipping your breakfast will be one of the biggest decisions you will regret as it can lead to a lot of digestive issues. Always have a light and easily digestible meal. If you are busy you can stick up to smoothies, shakes, juice, soups, or porridge in the morning. It is better to have a meal than to skip it.

Conclusion

The key to a successful morning routine is consistency. You may get bored or have other programs in between. Always pay importance to your health and switch to these routines daily.
