Advanced ayurveda involves guiding one to apply and regulate ayurvedic principles actively for the health and wellbeing of one’s own body and mind. These include habits and diets according to the body type, diets according to the season, detox and meditation.

Each body and mind is unique, thus using ayurveda for one’s health and wellbeing is a delicate and individualistic process. Treatment of ayurveda begins with understanding your body type. Every human body has three doshas, and they are Vatta, Pitta & Kapha. Health is a balancing of these three doshas, although one among them always dominates in different individual, and gives them a unique personality of their own.

Beginning with ‘Vata’ type, body elements constitutes of majorly space and air. People with is body type are generally quite slim, creative and energetic. People with this body type posses tendancies to have mood swings, anxiety, irregular bowels, appetite, poor circulation. Thus they are advised to follow a regular routine, practice meditation to beat stress, maintain a warm body temperature and consume warm foods and drinks.

The ‘Kapha’ types body are based on earth and water elements. They are generally empathetic, caring, trusting, patient, calm, wise. However they can be prone to weight gain, slow metabolism, sluggishness, over-sleeping, breathing issues, higher risk of heart disease, susceptible to depression, needs regular motivation and encouragement. Kapha-dominant person is prescribed to focus on regular exercise, a healthy diet, maintain a warm body temperature and establish a regular sleep routine.

The ‘Pitta’ types are have elements based on fire and water. They generally have a muscular build, athletic, and serve as strong leaders. They’re highly motivated, goal-oriented, and competitive. They tend to be impatient, prone to conflict, always hungry, mood swings when hungry, prone to acne and inflammation, sensitive to hot temperatures. Those with a pitta-dominant dosha are advised to find a work-life balance and avoid extremely hot weather and spicy food.

Consumption of the right food according to the seasonal change is important. The year breaks into vata season, which goes from late fall into early winter, kapha season, from the coldest part of winter into spring and pitta season, which includes the hottest, longest days of the year from late spring into early fall.

During vata season eat warm, moist foods like stews, soups, veggies, hot tea and make sure to avoid cold foods. Kapha season calls for eating lighter, drier foods and sprouts. Pitta season is the time to cool down the internal heat, by consuming cooling foods like salads and fruit juices.

Steps to detox begins with as little as few steps a day by walking to regular and ample exercise. One can engage in seasonal detoxification programs, panchakarma treatment etc. Even a small cup of tea having antioxidants regularly can bring changes.

Meditation involves getting in touch with your inner self. It has proven to regulate body’s metabolic rate to a healthy level and has restorative properties. Meditation brings a sense of happiness and contentment, thus one is likely to consume good foods and engage in healthy behaviours. It also helps regulate mood, emotions and had shown results to reduce anxiety and depression.
