How To Treat Psoriasis With Ayurveda

What is Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin condition affecting up to half a million Australians. It shows itself in the form of chronic patches of dry and often red patches of thickened skin. The infected skin is often flaky and itchy, and can affect day-to-day life for those suffering.

One important thing to note is that it is not contagious, however it can often be passed down through a family, as it is associated with genes. Unfortunately, there is no cure for psoriasis, however it can be controlled completely. When treated appropriately, the symptoms for psoriasis can be virtually eliminated.

What Causes Psoriasis

Whilst psoriasis is commonly passed down through genes, just because a family member does or does not have it, doesn’t mean you will be the same. There are certain things that can trigger its symptoms for those who may be prone to it. According to Ayurvedic practices, these triggers are:

1: Mental or physical stress.

2: Irregular lifestyle, or Mithya Vihara which can disrupt the digestive system and cause imbalance in your doshas.

3: Diet. In particular psoriasis is thought to be triggered by consumption of ‘opposite foods’ or Viruddha Aahar, such as yogurt and seafood, strong sour or spicy foods. As well as Mithya Aharajunk, or ‘improper diet’, which is excessive consumption of junk foods and fast foods, and smoking and alcohol consumption.

How Can Ayurveda Treat Psoriasis

Ayurveda treatment as been seen to be very successful for addressing the causes of psoriasis flare ups, and reducing symptoms so they no longer negatively affect your life. One of the best Ayurvedic treatments is Panchakarma treatment. Panchakarma is a treatment that focuses on purification of the body. It helps reset mind and soul to focus on better overall health. This is important for those whose psoriasis is being flared up by stress or irregular lifestyle causing imbalances in doshas.

Treatment also centres around lifestyle change. To address psoriasis, Ayurclinic suggests changes such as increase in gentle exercise, such as yoga, to address physical and mental stress. Any strong stressors in life must be addressed, for full holistic treatment. One of the biggest aspects of lifestyle change is diet change.

Ayurveda Treatment For Infected Areas

There are also Ayurvedic ways to treat painful infected areas of the skin, in natural, safe ways. One of the most popular treatments for infected areas is jasmine flower paste. When applied to the areas, this paste can reduce pain and itchiness.

Another popular method is applying fresh banana peels to the infected area, bananas natural anti-inflammatory and cooling properties have been very successful for some sufferers.

Aloe Vera is also favoured by some sufferers. Aloe Vera is known for its soothing and cooling nature, and Aloe Vera gel, applied directly from the leaf for natural healing, can help soothe the burning feeling of psoriasis.

Diet Changes

Diet changes are important to implement when attempting to treat psoriasis. It is important to review what potential diet habits may have bought on the disease, and adjust those. One must also focus on consuming foods that can help address psoriasis symptoms. Recommended diet changes for flare ups are:

1: Eliminating ‘opposite foods’ such as dairy and fish eaten together.

2: Control intake of strong intake of salty and acidic food

3: Consider a full or partial vegetarian diet

4: Reduce intake of junk foods

5: Avoid cold drinks

6: Avoid tobacco and alcohol consumption

7: No fermented foods

8: Avoid overly sweet foods

9: Increase intake of anti-inflammatory foods such as turmeric, ginger and garlic.

Acne

Acne is a familiar skin condition that we see in adolescents. In teenage the growth hormone is at its peak and the oil glands produce more oil. The small pores on our skin is connected to the oil gland beneath the skin. When the excess oil is not drained properly due to blocking, it forms pimple. The blocked gland with oil and cells give a perfect environment for the bacteria to grow.

When our immunity tries to kill the bacteria, it manifests as whiteheads, blackheads, pus filled pimples etc. Although it is not a serious health threat, it is the worst condition of skin the teens hate. Just application of creams and lotions would suppress the acne which would resurface later.

Acne Homeopathy:

Homeopathy considers all the root causes of acne –

  • Hormone levels
  • Excess oil secretion
  • Genetics
  • Pollution/diet
  • Certain medications
  • Greasy makeup/cosmetics

The treatment is both individualistic and holistic. Apart from the acne specific symptoms, Homeopathy takes an individual examination considering the patient’s

  • age
  • medical history
  • physical & emotional composition
  • gender
  • personal affiliation
  • individual case analysis
  • susceptibility to diseases etc

Since the treatment considers such a number of factors, the root cause of the condition is easily shortlisted. A suitable remedy is then prescribed with a customised dosage plan. Homoeopathy treatment is effective, more easy to take, natural, gentle in nature. It has very positive and encouraging long term effects since it addresses the root of the problem. It reduces and controls the proneness one has in getting acne. For specific doubts that you have for your condition contact us
